Getting a better look at their surroundings is certainly one of the reasons lions climb trees. They can use the higher vantage point to spot prey. At other times, they climb into the trees to rest, spending hours sleeping high above the ground. As I mentioned in the blog post, in this part of the Serengeti, lions frequently climb tress to get away from the flies (ever getting a few feet off the ground makes a huge difference). Like humans, wildlife often respond to multiple motivations.

I'm a guest speaker at a sales meeting at the JW Marriott Hill country hotel on October 11. I love nature photography, as can be seen from MY website, and I am looking for an opportunity to take some photos of THE HILL COUNTRY while I am there. I have Parkinson's disease and cannot drive, So I am looking for a guide for a couple days. Or just someone to transport me back and forth to a couple of good wildlife places, especially birds. Do you do this sort of thing or know someone who does? I will also pay for some instruction and/or someone to accompany me.
Regards,
Robert

Yes, the lamp image was taken at the Tarangire Safari Lodge. Each evening they put the lamps out on the tables that overlook the river. It is a great place to sit down and watch the African world walk by.

LOL. It certainly looks like the lions like that particular tree. I actually returned to the site with my family about two weeks later and we found three more lions resting in the same tree. There was also a leopard in a tree on the other side of the road. Sometimes as photographers we just get lucky. Thanks for sharing the link to your image.
